Whislt there is alot of debate over what exactly is a 'soft' shell, there is no doubt that they are growing in popularity. For many people they replace their 200-300 weight fleeces (including windproof fleeces). This is due to their versitility: Softshells are generally speaking, windproof, highly water-resistant whilst still offering enough breathablity to make them comfortable to wear all if needed.

In Dec 2006, Outdoor Enthusiast Magazine conducted a gear review of some of the softshells currenty on the market. Marmot were pleased to hear that the Marmot Sharp Point won editor's choice with 9 points out of a possible 10. They were impressed mostly by the quality and durability.

"Bomproof jacket designed for heavy duty use, and years of it at that"

"If you want a jacket that feels really well made and provides plenty of  flexibilitiy, this is the one to go for."

(Outoor Enthusiast, Vol 3, issue 2).
